CDS is a private, non-profit, community-based agency serving Weakley, Obion, Henry, Lake and Carroll Counties in Northwest Tennessee. Located adjacent to the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin, CDS works with individuals who are developmentally disabled, helping them live normally in the community. Normalization, the highest form of independence, is the ultimate goal.
CDS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of a thirteen person, self-perpetuating group of citizens. Membership consists of two representatives from each county that is served and five members at large. The Board is comprised of individuals possessing degrees in various professions as well as non-degreed individuals. Members are from both the for- profit and non-profit sectors that includes representatives of family members, health professionals, retired professionals, and members experienced in the field of mental health and mental retardation. The executive director has over 30 years of experience in the field of developmental disabilities holding positions as Outreach Worker, Social Worker, Program Manager and Program Director. Employment with CDS began in 1989 with the position of Assistant Director/Director of Residential Services and in 1997 was promoted to Executive Director.
The CDS employees are a group of caring professionals serving in various roles including a social worker, a vocational director, residential director, job-coaches, case managers, and direct support professionals all of whom work together for a common goal. CDS offers individuals an assortment of opportunities to enhance their personal, interpersonal and work readiness skills.
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
