Welcome to the home of Central church of Christ on the web. This page was established in May 2004 to share information about Central with web users and as a new way of communicating within the church's membership. We hope you find the page useful and that you will visit often.
The Story of the Central church of Christ
Central was established in the 1920s as a church of Christ to serve and teach the downtown Nashville community. Early works of the church ranged from general benevolence efforts such as clothing and food drives, establishing the longest running Christian radio program in US history, providing free dental and other medical care to the poor, and even operating two supervised dormitory buildings for young men and women who had moved to the city in search of a better life.
To exhibit to the changing world the unchanging Christ.
To give unto fainting hearts a firmer basis for their hope.
To remind those who are weary and heavy-laden of the rest which the Savior gives.
To inspire with courage those people who fear future days.
To present unto the broken-hearted the Great Physician with His healing balm.
To comfort all that mourn.
To warn all men--saint and sinner--of the dangers of sin.
To point those who are burdened with sin to the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
To present to those who are lost the Savior and the simple terms of salvation.
The Church Today
Today, the Central congregation continues to meet in the original building located in the heart of downtown Nashville. Central offers a radio program that still broadcasts Monday through Friday and twice on Sunday, correspondence courses ongoing in many places, a full-time benevolence ministry, and a deaf ministry.
