At the turn of the last century (1900s) the majority of healthcare, education and care for the elderly was in the hands of the church. The cornerstone of each community was the religious institutions meeting the needs of those less fortunate, whether they were homeless, in poverty, ill or the elderly. In the 1930s we saw the government assume a leadership position to provide for healthcare, education and then 30 years later we saw the birth of Medicare and a rapid expansion of social security.

Born in the heart of the founder just 100 years later, Donald W. Sapaugh, founder and CEO of TrinityCare Senior Living, used his desire to see the church take back its role in caring for seniors, by creating an environment that reflected quality living while enriching the faith of the residents. After visiting hundreds of senior living environments and caring for tens of thousands of people who were hurting (either in an outpatient environment, a hospital or alternative setting), Sapaugh set his sites on creating an entity whereby a senior adults faith was integrated with their living setting. In 2000, TrinityCare Senior Living was formed with one scripture as its basis, Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come. (Psalm 71:18). This passage signifies to the TrinityCare team that there is high value in senior adults, that they still have much to give back to this generation, and that our role is to be the catalyst.

By the end of 2001, they had completed construction of their first facility, just outside of Houston, and in early 2002 began to aggressively meet the needs of seniors in a facility providing independent and assisted living care from a faith-based perspective. The company established Ministerial Advisory Board that provides insight, support and volunteerism at each facility, bringing those from the broad Christian community together to meet the unique needs of the resident. The facility hosts numerous Bible study groups, praise time, and a wide variety of activities to keep the church actively involved in the faith of the resident. Today, the Company has three facilities in operation, with four more planned for 2008, and more in 2009.
