We care about you! Shanks Family Eyecare was started by Dr. Fred Shanks in 1998. The driving theme behind the practice is to provide quality, technologically advanced eye care for the entire family in a warm friendly environment. Dr. Shanks says "we are going to treat you like family each time you enter our office".
Dr. Shanks sees patients of all ages. He uses the most advanced and accurate methods to detect and track Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and other medical eye conditions. Scanning retina lasers, diagnostic digital imaging, and ultrasound have been added to ensure proper treatment.
We fit contacts for virtually anyone, including bifocal contacts. We also offer new procedures like corneal therapy for near-sighted as well as far-sighted patients. These techniques enable Dr. Shanks to reduce a patients dependency on glasses or contacts without surgery. Topping off the practice is the exciting optical Boutique featuring Prada, Cartier, Burberry, Vera Wang, Pro-Design, TOmmy Hilfiger, Jones New York, Baby Phat, Esprit and many other frame lines.
Dr. Shanks and his wife Donna are members of the Providence Baptist Fellowship where Dr. Shanks serves as an ordained Deacon. He is also a Gideon. With that organization he makes annual trips to New York City to distribute Bibles to school children. Dr. Shanks currently serves on the board for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is very active in Tennessee Right to Life.
