Volunteers at CONTACT-CONCERN of Northeast Tennessee, Inc. are trained to meet the needs of those who require information and referral to health and human services agencies.
Committed to confidentiality, volunteers listen 15 hours a day, 365 days a year to people who are calling for a variety of reasons. They might be abuse situations, loneliness, depression, needing temporary financial assistance, requiring medical direction or support group information. If needed, callers may receive crisis intervention or a daily reassurance call.
In 2006, volunteers processed approximately 19,000 calls at CONTACT-CONCERN. CONTACT also provides the answering services for a domestic violence shelter. All it takes to receive assistance from CONTACT-CONCERN is to dial 2-1-1.
CONTACT-CONCERN is supported by the UNITED WAY, area COMMUNITY CHESTS, churches, caring individuals, and fundraising projects. Contact-Concern welcomes your support. All gifts are tax deductible under IRS 501 (c) (3).
What is 2-1-1 ?
2-1-1 is the nation-wide abbreviated dialing code for free access to health and human service information and referral (I&R). The Federal Communications Commission approved the designation of 2-1-1 to be used for this purpose ONLY.
Information & Referral (I&R) is the link between people in need of services and providers of information on such services.
The 2-1-1 call for (I&R) could be for information about shelters, food programs, financial assistance for utilities or medical expenses, counseling services, support groups, addiction prevention or treatment, and battered women's' shelters.
